Stance on Political Issues
I am a libertarian environmentalist. There should be nothing viewed as “unusual” about the unification of libertarianism and environmentalism. Just as man should have basic liberties, so too should the environment. Below, I rant a bit on various “hot topics” of United States politics.
The Kyoto Protocol and the U.S.
With the highest GDP in the world, America is an huge, angry powerhouse of global industry. The losers of the global-production battle have all agreed to compete in an industrial market that is more environmentally friendly, by means of adhering to things like the Kyoto Protocol. It is time for American industry to play clean.
Third-Party Support
I am an avid supporter of the emergence of a third-party. I am a registered independent with libertarian and environmentalist ideals. I most closely affiliate with the United States Libertarian Party. I have taken a pledge not to vote for a democrat or republican in any state or national election, favoring instead a third party candidate - regardless of their particular platform.
Justice System
Various models in place in America emphasise punishment over rehabilitation. With proper education, our citizens will be pre-motivated to avoid crime, and there would be less need for a half-effective, socially counter-productive penal system. Social digression does not merit further social digression. It is critical that government funds are spent pointedly on social progress.
Death Penalty Supporters
Generally, I am sceptical of death-penalty supporters. I wonder about them:
- What has happened in their life to necessitate such an aggrandized view of authority? Further, does that coincide with some sort of sick, BDSM sex fetish?
- If they believe there are actions warranting death, perhaps there are actions warranting less severe, but yet still irrational consequences? Am I safe to go about my usual, mundane routine around this person?
- If human life is dispensable to this person, can they truly value me as a person? Is there any benefit to me investing in them?
There’s always some follow-up footnote with these arguments, like “oh, only in cases x, y, z, or t in { w = f(z), where f is a holomorphic function on an punctured disk about 0. }” If you haven’t caught my point yet, a government should serve it’s people, not whatever else all this could be described as.
Size of America, Need for States Rights
America is too large. Its regions are divided by economy, culture, and ethnicity. In every other place in the world where these divisions exist, distinct governments are established to cater to the particular needs of that population.
In America, a solution could be a strong system of states rights. The power of the state has weakened over time, however, due to overly liberal legislature:
“This time, Tommy got killed by a B.B. gun, so let’s ensure that no one in America can ever have a B.B. gun, disregarding issues of statistical significance, favoring instead our transitory, blinding irrational feelings.”
- Freedom-hating Freddy, Congressman, Anytown, USA
Gun Control
“The second amendment is archaic legislature that was only relevant during the British invasions.”
- Freedom-hating Freddy, Democrat, Anytown, USA
The second amendment is not about guns being cool; they’re definitely not. Rather, it is a contract between government and people. The people have the right to reform their government should it become tyrannical.
Unfortunately, some Americans do not respect their freedom. In this particular instance, it can lead to the deaths of other innocent Americans. The alternative, however, is to concede absolute militant power to a ruling group, and trust that it will respect its freedoms. A system of interaction between people and government of this sort was attempted in the 1930s in Europe, which, I would argue, has become somewhat unfashionable.
Gays, Abortions, Stem cells and like whatever, dude.
Who cares. There’s too much reproduction, anyway.
Israel & Islam in Conservative Media
While I blame Zionism for many of the problems in the middle east, it is not rational to hold this generation’s Israelis responsible for being born in Israel. I advocate a more progressive and inclusive Israeli government and society which aims to integrate the people and culture of Palestine.
I call on all Jews to publicly denounce the state of Israel for it’s unjust treatment of Palestinians. There is no ethical argument to support a Jewish homeland in Israel by the displacement of other persons. Support for Israel is not a matter of Jews supporting Jews within a global community, it is a matter of Jews supporting killers and terrorists.
Similarly, through the demonization of Islamic persons, the United States conservative media has created a social climate where the plight of the Palestinian people, and indeed of all persons of this creed, is of little concern. American support of Israel is the source of much of the unrest in the entire middle-east.
American Regime of 2000-2008
As of 2006, there were 113,146,000 American households. Estimates indicate the war effort in Iraq will cost Americans over $1 Trillion dollars, which is over $8,800 per household. Considering that the median annual income of an American household was $48,201 in 2006, this is one clear example of how current leadership has had a negative impact on American economy and standard of living.
